 WELCOME TO YEAR 2

 

A Message From Mrs Postlethwaite and Mrs Kane .

Autumn 2024 

 

Welcome back to school we have so much to look forward to in the Autumn  term. 

RE :  We will be learning about creation and covenant.We will be reading the creation story and looking for it in the bible. We will also be reading and performing The Nativity Story. 

English : We will learning how to use noun phrases to help us make our writing more descriptive. We will be revising how to check our work to make sure we are using capital letters and full stops. We will be writing our own versions of stories we have read in class and also learning how to write an information fact file.

Maths : We will be using place value to read and write 2 digit numbers. We will be using our knowledge to add and subtract numbers and problem solve. We will also be learning all about the properties of 2d and 3d shapes.

Science:  We will be learning all about the properties of different materials and how they are used to make different objects. We will investigate how materials can be changed by putting force on them or by heating or cooling them.

Topic: In topic work we will be learning about the history of transport and why the canal in  Ellesmere Port was important.  We will be looking in detail at how maps help us find places and travel to places and in particular we will learn all about the United Kingdom , it's countries and capital cities. We will be learning how to play the recorder, how to use code to program a bee bot , how to paint using watercolours and also how to design and make a healthy sandwich.

We will be going on a trip to Ellesmere Port Boat Museum and  also learn how to use digital devices to capture and record our work. We are are going to be very busy !

HOMEWORK in Y2

All homework will be given out on a Friday

Parents to mark with child using answers provided and feedback to teacher any issues with the task given if child is having any difficulties.

Reading- read every night for 10 minutes- records checked on Monday morning and phonics books changed on a Wednesday .

Spelling-   Spelling test will be on a Wednesday.

 

PE - Children need to wear PE kits on Wednesday and Friday
