YEAR 1 - Miss Hart and Mrs Wilson
Miss Hart will work with the children on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Wilson will be in class Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Spring Term
The children's learning experiences in Year 1 will become more structured this term with more group work and independent work. The children will still have the opportunity to learn through play, but this will mostly be in the afternoon sessions. As children progress through Year 1, we carefully structure the day to help them adjust to the change in teaching and learning style.
Spring Term Learning:
Our class topic this half term will be 'Great Fire of London.’
In English, our text this half term is 'Katie in London'. We will be learning to:
- Punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop
- Use some question marks and exclamation marks
- Use ‘and’ between words and some clauses
- Use simple description to add detail and interest
- Write simple sentences linked to the topic
- Write in the present tense
- Link ideas through subject or pronoun
In Maths, we will focus on place value to 20 and extend this to 50. The children will also learn different strategies to add and subtract within 10 and then 20.
In Religious Education, our topic is 'Galilee to Jerusalem’. Children will listen and respond to different bible stories to learn about important moments in Jesus’ life. These include the Presentation in the Temple and Zacchaeus.
In Science, our topic is 'Materials’. The children will have the opportunity to explore different materials and their properties.
In History, children will learn about the Great Fire of London and take part in an exciting drama workshop based on this historic event.
We also have lots more exciting learning planned in PE, Forest School, Music, Art and Computing.
Our P.E days this half term will be TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY
Children wear their PE kit on these days. Children can choose to wear either a school hoodie, jumper or cardigan. During the cold weather I recommend wearing leggings or joggers rather than shorts.
All earrings must be removed before the PE lesson. Children must be able to remove their own earrings if they have not been removed before school.
