Autumn Term 2024

This half term will see us gradually start to increase the time children spend in adult-led activities and independent learning tasks.  The time to learn through play will gradually reduce so the children are ready for the change in structure in January.

Our class topic this half term is ‘Wonder Weather'.

In English, we will be using the text 'Lost and Found'. We will be predicting what will happen in the story, talking about the characters and how they feel at different points in the story.  We will practise sequencing and retelling the story before writing it.

In Maths, we will continue our learning on addition and subtraction within 10.  We focus on the language of calculation and the symbols +, - and =.  Later in the term we will learn about 2d shapes and their properties.

In Religious Education, our topic is ‘Prophecy & Promise’.  We will listen to bible stories and learn about two important events, the Annunciation and the Visitation.  We discuss the importance of Mary as our Mother and look at the Hail Mary prayer.  We will learn about the Nativity story in readiness for our play.

In Science, we are learning about seasonal changes and will be comparing the characteristics of different seasons.  We will observe changes from autumn to winter and describe the weather associated with these seasons.  We will discuss how day length varies.

In Computing, we are building on our early experiences of coding in Reception.  We will tinker with BeeBots and start to plan, write and debug early coding.

PE, our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Children should come to school wearing their PE kit.  All earrings should be removed before the PE lesson, if your child is unable to remove their earrings independently, they must be removed before school.

This half term we are also enjoying Composer Week starting the 4th November and Anti-Bullying Week starting on the 11th November.
