Unique Spanish Exchange for pupils.
Photos attached from our super Spanish exchange programme! This year, St Mary's and our partner school, Maristas Pamplona, are working on a joint webspace to promote Internet Safety. This will be published in summer 2020. Funding for this, and our last three years of the exchange programme, was supported by the EU Erasmus project, which aims to bring pupils from other countries together, promote foreign language learning, and help pupils to understand the many employment opportunities that are available in other EU countries. The world is a small place, if you want it to be! If we just look inwardly at the UK, we are missing out on so many opportunities!
The trips to Pamplona enabled us to deepen our intercultural understanding, and to practise our Spanish language. Activities in school included e-safety sessions with the Policia de Navarra, the local police in charge of e-safety for schools. Our friends helped to translate the session for us. Cultural visits included to the site of the famous 'Bull Run' in Pamplona, which raised various debates! We also had a fantastic day at the Basque Aquarium and the beach at San Sebastian.
Teachers have also been sharing their skills and pedagogy with each other, both online and in face to face work experience visits. We're all improving our language learning skills too. Yes, Erasmus+ is supporting this too!
Due to a change of leadership and restructuring in our partner school in Spain, the exchange is going to take place 'on line' only, in 2019-20.
