Relationship and sex education - Policy 2020

Dear Parents,

The Department for Education has announced changes to teaching of relationships and sex education (RSE), which come into effect from September 2020. All schools will be required to comply with the updated requirements.

To ensure we are fully prepared for the changes, Mrs Thorpe has been working with a Diocesan working party on developing an RSE policy which meets the criteria laid down by the Department of Education, but also  reflects  our Catholic values and virtues.

The draft policy has been accepted in principle by the Diocese and has now been published on the Diocesan website. We are confident that the RSE policy is appropriate for the pupils in our school based on their:

  • Age
  • Physical and emotional maturity
  • Religious and cultural backgrounds
  • Special educational needs and/or disabilities

Governors are now seeking parental input prior to their next meeting.

The consultation period will run from the 14th February 2020 to 25th February 2020.

Please have a look at the feedback and let us know what your think, by letter or email:

We will also be holding a drop in session on Monday 24th February 2020, 3.30pm – 4.30pm,  where parents are welcome to come into school and look resources, teaching resources, supporting documents and offer their feedback or ask questions.

We look forward to receiving your feedback.
