R.E. mission & aims.
"St. Mary of the Angels is an OUTSTANDING Catholic school". (S48 Ofsted report June 2016.)
Our Mission Statement. Children, staff, governors and parents had a say in developing our succinct, all encompassing statement! We love you like it. We can all remember and use it daily!
Our aims can be summarised as;
The core Religious Education scheme in the school is 'The Way, the Truth and The Life'. Our Bishop Mark Davies sets the expectations for religious education in the Diocese, through his Vision Statement on Education, which was consulted upon, with all governors. The R.E. Scheme and its values are certainly lived out daily, in how we interact with each other in school, how we interact with our parish and with our wider community. Termly topics on other faiths enhance our knowledge of community and world issues. And we have been part of the Global Learning Partnership, with the work of CAFOD (the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development ) as a priority for our education and fundraising activities.
Parish and school are so closely linked. Our chergy are Fr Edmund Montgomery and Fr Humphrey O'Connor, supported by Deacon Tony Nuttall and Deacon Paul Sutton. With them, we aim to create one parish-one school, in the love of God. In school we welcome the whole parish community; events include assembles, masses and celebrations; retreats and 'drop in afternoons' with our clergy...and so on. At the parish, we have regular school masses on various Sundays; and liturgies for the children; classes visit church on special occasions; and there's a school notice board with the latest news, Many pupils also attend a church Junior Youth club for Y3 to 6 pupils; and so on.
