Admission to high schools (Year 6 to Year 7 transfers).
Transfers to high school for September 2018
Children born between 1st. September 2006 and 31st. August 2007 are normally due to transfer to secondary school in September 2018.
The vast majority of our Year 6 pupils transfer to Ellesmere Port Catholic High School. Other schools welcome applications too of course. Admission to the Catholic High School is regulated by their governors' admission policy, available on their website (click the link .)
The application process begins the year before your child is due to start high school. Applications for places in Year 7 must be made through the local authority which maintains the school; for most of you, this is Cheshire West and Chester Council.
If you are not resident in Cheshire West and Chester and wish to apply for a school maintained by this authority, you will need to include the school as a preference on your home authority's application form.
Most high schools will hold an open evening to enable parents and children to visit and view their facilities. For example, Ellesmere Port Catholic High School has an Open Evening each September. These are usually advertised in the local press or on the schools' own websites. Everyone is welcome.
An Information Booklet for Year 7 transfers - for a Sept 2018 start - was available in the autumn term on this link; and you were advised to read this carefully, as it contains important information about the application process and the key dates. Details of how applications are considered for oversubscribed schools and how your preferences will be processed are also shown in this booklet. Please check the useful link below for application details and deadlines.
A number of voluntary aided schools, including E.P.C.H.S., may require the completion of a supplementary information form in order that additional information is provided in support of an application, for example, if you have stated on your application form that your child is a baptised Catholic, you will need to provide a copy of your child's baptismal certificate. Supplementary forms can be obtained, completed and returned to the relevant school, for the attention of the governing body, by the closing date for applications, unless otherwise stated.
