Year 1. 2018 - 2019
Welcome to Year 1 Autumn Term
We've made a great start to the new year and our Year 1 students are already growing into the role of hard-working year 1's.
During the term ahead, our topic will be ''Toys''. We will be exploring old and new toys, looking at similarities and differences.
In English, we will be looking at a range of texts including Nibbles the Book Monster. Our main focus this half term is for the children to understand our school's high expectations of presentation and learning how to form simple sentences.
Our current Maths learning focus is Addition and Subtraction. I will be teaching for mastery using concrete, pictorial and abstract approach to learning to secure fluency and reasoning skills.
In RE we will be exploring Jesus' teaching about 'Mary our Mother'.
At home there are many different ways in which you can support your child with their learning this year.
Please read with your child each night. This does not need to be the whole book as we will not be changing books daily. If you finish the book at home here are some alternative reading activities: retell the story in detail, discuss the characters, talk about your favourite part of the story, re-write the story or just re-reading the story.
Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and tested on a Wednesday. Please copy out each spelling and then use it in a sentence.
Maths -CGP books will be sent home on a Friday to be returned on Tuesday - you will find the relevant activity/page to complete typed at the top of your child's spellings.
Thank you for your support - I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children throughout the year.
