Year 1. 2018 - 2019

Miss Hart

Welcome to Year 1 Autumn Termsmiley

We've made a great start to the new year and our Year 1 students are already growing into the role of hard-working year 1's.

During the term ahead, our topic with be ''Who am I?'' We will be learning about our local area and finding out lots about each other.

In English, we will be looking at a range of texts including Lost and Found written by Oliver Jeffers. Our main focus this half term is for the children to understand our school's high expectations of presentation and learning how to form simple sentences.

Our Maths learning begins this term with a Place Value focus before moving on to look at the use of the four operations (additon, subtraction, multiplication and division). Our focus will again be teaching for mastery using concrete, pictorial and abstract approach to learning to secure fluency and reasoning skills.

Religious Education

In RE we will be exploring Jesus' teaching about 'God's Great Plan' and the story of creation.

At home there are many different ways in which you can support your child with their learning this year.

Please read with your child each night. This does not need to be the whole book as we will not be changing books daily. If you finish the book at home here are some alternative reading activities: retell the story in detail, discuss the characters, talk about your favourite part of the story, re-write the story or just re-reading the story.

Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and tested on a Tuesday. Please copy out each spelling and then use it in a sentence.

Maths -CGP books will be sent home on a Friday to be returned on Tuesday - you will find the relevant activity/page to complete typed at the top of your child's spellings.

Open invitation

There will be the opportunity to meet formally during the Parent/Teacher evening in October, but in the meantime you are welcome to chat to me on the playground after school, or to make an appointment. I am here to help and I look forward to working together with you this year.

Thank you for your support - I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children throughout the year.
