Reception. 2018 - 2019
Reception Class (EYFS2).
This week we have been learning all about fire fighters and how they help people. Sofia pretended to be a fire fighter and the children asked her questions.
We made our own fire engines using junk modelling materials.
The children have also been pretending to be fire fighters outside and have enjoyed using the polydrons to build ladders.
Letters and Sounds
The children have been recapping on the initial sounds they have learnt so far and have been introduced to the 'v', 'w', 'y' and 'x' sounds of the phonics programme. They have been identifying objects beginning and ending with these sounds and have been practising to write them as well.
The children have been playing on the 'Pocket phonics' APP on the I pads to help them to remember the sounds they have learnt so far.

We are beginning to use our phonic knowledge and tricky words in order to write sentences.
This week we have been practising to recognise numbers to ten and beyond. The children have also been learning about long and short. They listened to the story of 'Superworm' and made play dough and multilink worms as well as magic wands for wizard lizard. They compared objects and identified which was the longest and which was the shortest before measuring them using multilink cubes.
